Virtual Learning Days

Dear AMS Families,

Alcoa Middle School has been working extremely hard over the past few months to keep our students, faculty, and staff safe from the spread of the COVID-19 virus. To date, Alcoa Middle has had the fewest number of reported cases in the school district and we continue to promote mask-wearing, social distancing, and sanitizing during the school day. However, reported positive cases are on the rise in Blount County and we must be prepared to adapt to changing conditions day-to-day. In an effort to prepare for the cold weather months and the possibility of moving our school schedule back to a staggered or full-time virtual format,

Alcoa Middle School will be on a 100% virtual schedule next Monday (11/23) and Tuesday (11/24). This means that students will stay home on Monday and Tuesday and receive instruction through a Google Meet class session with their teachers. Monday and Tuesday are counted as regular school days and attendance will be taken each day.

While our reported cases are low at AMS, we would like to take advantage of the short week before Thanksgiving break to practice a new 100% virtual learning plan with our students. Attached you will find the new schedule and expectations for students during a 100% virtual learning format as well as a schedule and expectations for a 50% staggered format. This information will also be posted on the school’s website for future reference.

We are still operating in ‘unprecedented’ times with schooling and COVID-19. We greatly appreciate all of the hard work and support of our school community and partners.

Thank you,

Dr. Porter
