AMS Summer Learning Camps

Dear AMS Families,

It has been approximately one year since AMS left for Spring Break and did not return to school until the fall of 2020.  We have spent the past year attending school at capacities of 20%, 50%, and eventually 100%.  It has been a challenge for all stakeholders to maintain the consistency we desire for regular teaching and learning.  As we approach the end of the 20-21 school year, Alcoa City Schools will offer Summer Learning Camps to help address potential learning gaps created over the past year.  The focus of the Alcoa Middle School Summer Learning Camps will be on English Language Arts (Literacy Skills) and Mathematics. Other subject areas will be addressed during the four-week camp, including Physical Education, but the main focus will be on identifying areas of need in ELA and Math. Certified AMS teachers will serve as the instructors for these summer camps.

All students in grades 6-8 are eligible to attend this summer.  A Google Form link will be provided to you for camp sign-up between March 19-April 9.  This link will be emailed to you through Skyward and posted on the AMS website.

AMS will offer (4) one-week camps between (May 24-June 18).  Students/families may select one, two, three, or four weeks for Summer Learning Camp.  However, we request that students commit to attending the full five days of each camp.  Consistent attendance is critical for effective learning and practice to take place.  Course content and skill development activities will change week to week with each camp.  So, students selecting more than one week will not repeat a previous camp’s scope and skills.
