Mr. Pettus attended Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN, on a football scholarship and received a degree in Special Education. Then he went on to Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) to receive his Master's in Administration Leadership and an ED.S. degree in Instructional Leadership. His teaching career began in 2007 at Fulton High School in Knoxville where he taught special education while coaching varsity football at Karns High School. From 2008 to 2010, he taught special education at Maryville High School while coaching varsity boys’ basketball. In 2010, he went home to teach special education and mathematics at Oak Ridge High School while coaching varsity girls' basketball at Fulton High School.
Since 2013, he has been teaching special education at Alcoa High and Middle School while coaching varsity boys’ basketball.
