Profile
My name is Kelsey Nelson and I am thrilled to be teaching 6th grade ELA this year at Alcoa! This will be my 10th year teaching ELA and I cannot wait to share my love of reading with my new Tornado students. I love middle school students and feel so privileged that I get to spend time learning and growing with my students each day. I am a graduate of the University of Tennessee (Go Vols!) and I received my Master's and EdS degrees from Lincoln Memorial University. I also serve as a Teaching Fellow for the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.
I am married to a sweet man named Nick and in my spare time, I love to travel, needlepoint, read, bake, go to the lake, and spend time serving at my church. I believe in living life to the fullest and am always looking for my next big adventure. It is an honor to be a Tornado and I am looking forward to a great year together.
Grading Information
Grading Scale
- A = 90-100
- B = 80-89
- C = 70-79
- D = 60-69
- F - 0-59
Work we do both in class and outside of class is important and will all count towards a student’s final grade in this class. On a related note, students will have homework on a weekly basis. Class time is spent on learning and collaboration, so any work taken home is an extension of what we learned in class that day. I don’t believe in busy work, so if it is homework, then it is important.
