Today, we will talk about sentence fragments.  What makes up a sentence?  What is a fragment?

We will also talk about run on sentences.  How do you fix a run on sentence? What is a conjunction? What does FANBOY stand for?

Complete this asignment after you have completed the figurative language song assignment.

Complete Practice Set

Today, you will use the information from yesterday's lesson on Sensory Detail and write a 2 paragraph narrative essay.  The instructions are on the attached google document.

I have also attached an example essay.  This may help you if you need help if your essay.

You need to identify at least 6 examples of figurative language in a song of your choice. Copy and paste the song into a Google Doc. Highlight the different examples of figurative language and put in parenthesis what the type of figurative language that you identified is. Make sure your song is school appropriate. Also, using the same type of figurative language repeatedly is not acceptable (ex. using a line from the chorus that is repeated 3 times as 3 examples is not acceptable). Attach your Google Doc to this assignment. Examples of figurative language should be an example of a simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, allusion, alliteration, onomatopoeia, symbol, oxymoron, irony, idiom, and or imagery.

Today, I will give you 10 minutes to work and finish up the "catch up" work from yesterday.  Catch up work is due by 3:30 today.

Today, we will begin discussing how to incorporate sensory details in your writing.  We will examine multiple images and discuss how the 5 senses are incorporated in those images.  You will then write a two paragraph narrative that incorporates at least 3 sensory componets from an image.

Today, I will individually review your practice writing exam essays with you.  This will take some time.  While I am going over the essays you will work at your desk.  You need to make sure that the following assignments are COMPLETED!! They are your first grades for this nine weeks and need to be completed by Wednesday by the end of the school day.  All of these are on google classroom.  I have provided the dates of the assignments.

March 23rd: "What I did over spring break" essay
March 5th: Figurative Language Practice; google doc on the assignment
March 3rd: "My favorite animal" essay

If you are finished with all of the work above you may read your library book.

Today we will go to the library, if it is open.  Next, you will write an essay "What I did Over Spring Break."  Your essay needs to be at least 3 paragraphs with 3-4 sentences in each paragraph.  Make sure that you use your descriptive words to help the reader visualize what you did!!

1. On your chromebook: Complete the introduction to Figurative Language activity. Give a definition and create an example of each type of figurative language.  Be sure to highlight the figurative language in your example. Due by the end of the period.
2. Next, work on the St. Patrick's Day packet.  There are two reading passages, vocabulary, crossword, and word scramble to complete.  You may color only when you have completed the work activities.

2. When finished with Tcap practice test, you will write an informative essay.  Your essay must be at least four paragraphs in length. 
Answer the following question:  "What is your favorite animal?" (Things to consider to include in your essay: Why is it your favorite, describe the animal, where does it live, would you want the animal as a pet, have you ever seen the animal in real life or just pictures)
3. Type your essay on the document provided.  Don't forget to give your essay a title.

Today, you will complete an informational reading about Charles Dickens.  He is the author of "A Christmas Carol."  We will read "A Christmas Carol" in January.  Work hard because it is due by the end of class or it is homework. 

Today, you will finish your argumentative essay.  Your essay needs to be typed and turned in by the end of the period.  Don't forget to give your essay a title! Arial 14 for title and Arial 12 for body.
1. Record yourself reading essay.  Listen to your essay. Make any necessary changes.

Today, you will use the video feature on your chromebook and record yourself reading your rough draft.  After, you have finished reading you will then use headphones and listen to your paper.  While you are listening to your paper make corrections to your paper.  Sometimes it is easier to correct your paper if you hear your errors.  Then, you need to complete the checklist to ensure you have all the components for your argumentative essay.  Your essay is due (typed and turned in) by end of class tomorrow.  Don't forget to give your essay a title!!!

Today we are beginning an argumentative essay.  We will begin with the introduction.  Information for the essay can be found on page 164 and 165 of your book.  We will work on this essay all week long.
