Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies!

This year, we will investigate Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Israel, Ancient Egypt, Ancient India, Ancient China, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.  I stress it’s important to learn about and understand the past so we can make better decisions about the future! Our students are the future!

In class we will think, question, and have a growth mindset. We will practice the important life skills of being respectful, responsible, and accountable so we can strive to be the best version of ourselves together!

A little background information about me:

I have over 25 years experience in education, teaching from K-1 and 5th grade, to graduate classes at The University of TN.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Human Learning and Behavior, and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of TN. I then got my Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University; however, my blood runs orange as I am a third generation VOL for life!

I worked for the state as an ELA/Intervention Specialist, returned to Alcoa in administration, and now have returned to my first love, the classroom! I am very excited about teaching the students I had as a principal! It is truly a unique privilege to be part of their educational journey in this way.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Jim Maples, for over 30 years and have two grown boys, Keller and Davis. I also have two very spoiled dogs, Roxi Roux, and Doodle Bug Maples.

I look forward to learning with your children this year and hope to provide them with a wonderful experience in my classroom.

Please feel free to contact me if there is ever a question or concern!

Sincerely,
